Doug has been actively involved in the building industry for more than 35 years. He has been a building official, general contractor, project manager, large building site superintendent and designer. Doug's passion for the industry has always compelled him to seek the specialized knowledge necessary to place himself at the forefront in all his areas of focus.
Doug's first 8 years in the industry were focused on learning the legal aspects of building – the Ontario Building Code (OBC). This created the foundation for which all layers of Doug's career could be built on. His thorough and complete knowledge of the OBC has become a crucial part in defining Doug's ability to guide even the most complex projects through the confines of the building code regulations. The next 12 years marked Doug's commercial/industrial design build phase, where his conscientious job costing and detail centric design guided Doug through many successful projects throughout the GTA. The attention to design and how closely it relates to the budget is an obstacle for any company to overcome. Each and every client of MDM benefits from Doug's years of experience in finding balance in budget and design . Project management along with site supervision became the next 6 year mission. The knowledge of construction scheduling, job costing and estimating at the front end of the project and the orchestrating of the construction trades on site has come to enhance the entire package that MDM offers its clients. Without actually experiencing and touching the onsite processes, the design can never really be 100% complete. The real focus of the architectural and structural design portion of Doug’s career has taken place over the past 10 years. Hundreds of projects have been designed, reviewed, reworked, revised for the client and polished before going out the MDM door. From simple residential house designs, to structural steel detailing for fabrication in industrial applications to commercial offices and retail projects – The application of specialized knowledge and a lifelong career full of experience is what we offer our clients at MDM.
